Q:What is a Search Engine?

A: A searchable online database of internet resources.

It is made up of several components: search engine software, spider software, an index (database), and a relevancy algorithm (rules for ranking). The search engine software consists of a server or a collection of servers dedicated to indexing Internet Web pages, storing the results and returning lists of pages to match user queries. The spidering software constantly crawls the Web collecting Web page data for the index. The index is a database for storing the data. The relevancy algorithm determines how to rank queries. Examples of major search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Websites should be built to attract maximum attention within the search engines. Equally important to having a visually appealing and easy to navigate website, is a website that can be found by individuals searching the internet for what you have to offer.

Attention must be placed on proper content as well as targeted keywords in order to be optimally recognized by the major search engines.

The reason for this is very simple...

The main responsibility of a Search Engine is to provide the "Searcher" with the most relevant information on the "Keyword Search" they just performed, in order to best help them find exactly what they are looking for. So it makes sense that the more good ol' fashioned content you have on your website about your business, and your products or services, the more of a chance you have to be included in the results of a given search and found by your prospective customers.

People search for keywords within the search engines. And the search engine bots and spiders look for these keywords on the indexed pages. So, keyword-dense content easily helps your website appear more often in the search results. However, overuse of the keywords can be looked at as spam and have a negative effect on your ranking. A minimum keyword density of about 2-4% per page is effective. And the content is best optimized targeting only two or three keywords at the most. Also, highlighting the main keywords with such formatting as bold, italics, underline, etc., is very advantageous.

There are links to free tools on the left that will allow you to check the keyword density percentage of your website.

Search Engine Optimized Web Design is best accomplished by finding an SEO Content Writer to prepare good quality search engine-optimized content that is relevant to your website.

Next, I will talk about the importance of Back Links as well as RSS Feeds for Optimal Search Engine Rankings. What they are and how you can use them to attract more business.

The Importance of SEO and Web Design for Search Engine Rankings

Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Web Design

With the growing popularity of the internet, natural search engine optimization is a necessary process to garner your share of online traffic . It is used and applied by almost all sites on the internet that aim to make a profit and achieve popularity online. For nearly every search conducted on the internet, there are millions of results, and this number is doubling every year as new competition crops up in every market online. The fact remains that there are only ten natural results that show up on that first page of Google, or Yahoo, or any of the other viable search engines that are out there in cyberspace.

There are many strategies for optimizing a web site. We will begin with the first and one of the most important - SEO web design.  SEO web design is a concept which emphasizes strategic design principles based on how the search engines determine relevance and site information. The design should be able to give out the information that the user is seeking and at the same time be easy to navigate and pleasing to look at.  Website Design is an important part of search engine optimization because the structure and design should also be able to satisfy robotic crawlers and spiders in their quest for information regarding the website content and other data.  Attention to this will help raise the ranking of the site.

This is where strategic SEO web design comes in. There are many ways to make the web site more attractive to robotic visitors and human visitors alike. Actually, spiders and crawlers from search engines do not mind the overall aesthetic value of the site. All these robotic crawlers need is the information it can get from the site. The tricky part is how to put relevant information, including a specific percentage of relevant keyword content within the website in order for the crawlers to properly index the site based on relevance as well as achieve high rankings.

SEO companies who specialize in optimizing web sites must also know how to put a site in front of others in order to bring it to the attention of the Internet users. The search optimizers who will handle your site must be able to know the right strategies to place the web site ahead of others in its field through accepted methods of optimization. This means staying within the strict anti-spam guidlines of the search engines. Namely, Google and Yahoo. There are web strategies that may be unacceptable for search engines. Using these underhand or black hat tricks to perpetuate a site in rank can cause the search engines to ban the site and also the SEO web design company that did the search engine optimization work for it.

Search Engine Optimized web design is a competitive area where web designers work hard to come up with ideas and designs that are pleasing to the eye and relevant at the same time. There has to be consideration for ease of getting around the website, being appealing to a wide range of visitors and finding the right place for the website.  Making a basic, visually appealing site is easy with the many technological advances available today, but the problem with these advances is that they are sometimes quite tricky to use thus making your website difficult to navigate.

SEO web design should be easy to use and friendly to both human and robotic browsers.

Remember...you only get one chance to make a first impression. The pictures and images on your website should be just the right size and scale to enable users to see them promptly after clicking instead of taking a very long time to download. Waiting for images and other graphics to load can be a turn-off for most visitors and will lead them to another site which is more optimized and easy to view. Even spiders and crawlers will give up on a site which is not easy to navigate and get into. Easy navigational access can be accomplished through proper design by making the pages of the website clear and easy to navigate, and by having easy to understand buttons and links.

Another aspect of SEO web design that needs to be considered is what your competition is doing. There are many site optimization tools that can help analyze and determine what is needed for the website, both on it's own, and in relation to the immediate competition.

Content is one of the prime needs and tools of making the site rank high in searches. Finding out or identifying the right keywords to integrate into the site is crucial in making the site appear in the top rankings. Keyword search tools and having keyword rich content and titles can help to optimize a site efficiently.

Next, I will be writing about the importance of content within a given website, and the proper balance of strategically placed keywords within that content, to achieve the best rankings within the search engines.

What is Search Engine Optimization or SEO?

Natural search engine optimization is a cost effective and specialized technique that can get your site ranking prominently in the search engines without the use of additional pay per click services. The process, also called organic search engine optimization, involves appealing to the search engines guidelines through the proper use of keywords, site structure, content, link building. All of these combined actions will help to increase your websites popularity and relevance and thus you will achieve higher rankings in the natural results of the major search engines.

In addition to traditional forms of marketing and advertising, having a website allows you to advertise directly to your target customers who are looking for a product or service that you offer. You can target your potential customers through a variety of online sources, such as search engines and directories. Search engines and directories give you the opportunity to advertise your company right along side major companies with well-known brand names. It is the only medium that puts you in the same playing field as the large companies.
